abcess help please

hi as previos posts i have been treating my boy for an abscess on bottom of hind foot .well things going well thanks to you bunch,untill tonight. yesterday things great finish anti biotic thanks to someone tip on treacle sarnies and foot dry and looked great hole dry and clear covering as it was dry thought stop dry poltice .foot looking good this morning then tonight cleanig out foot and hole starts to bleed not a lot just a trickle it dried before i put his foot down. what to do? if ive taken the dressing off to soon could someone please explian what the healing process looks like? he is 99% sound but he is only shod on 3 legs thankyou

The wound should heal with a smooth "skin" I would be concerned at the bleeding in case you have proud flesh (granulation tissue) forming. If it is spongy you will need to dry it up (or have it removed) In any case it may be a good idea at this stage to apply a dressing of iodine and sugar or something similar.

thanks spotties should i still dry dress it ?this skin is what the vet told me to be looking for what does it look like ?because its on his sole

The new "skin like" horn growth forms a thin layer on the base of the abscess hole it should be smooth and off white in colour. Granulation tissue is soft and spongy, it is darker in colour and will try to fill the cavity, sometimes protruding above the sole. A small amount of granulation tissue may be cleared just by keeping the wound clean and dry, padding to apply some pressure and topical treatments (sugar and iodine) may however be necessary. If it persists it will delay the healing, so if you cant get on top of it quickly, get your vet or farrier to have a look. When you achieve a clean dry hollow in the sole you have essentially healed the abscess

but the horny covering is obviously still thin and so may need packing or padding in order that the horse can return to normal work, your farrier will advise on this.
