I had a little 3yr old welsh sec a colt who was hopping lame, my vet came out and requested he was taken to their equine hospital for further investigation. We took him and xrays etc were done and the conclusion from the xrays, was a fractured pedal bone that had rotated and was just starting to come through the sole of his hoof, although you couldnt see this when you looked at the sole of his hoof. By the next day his tendons had contracted and he looked like he was on tip toes... It was a horrible time and ultimatley my little man had to be pts. I really hope your horse only has an abcess, your farrier and vet dont seem concerned, which is a positive thing. Obviously my story is worse case scenario. Please keep us updated.. x

1 week ago... Get to the yard Wednesday night, our lad is absolutely fine, rode etc, all was good. Get to the yard Thursday night and he's hopping lame!! He couldn't put any weight on his off side hind!

I panicked (as you do!!), but farrier had a look Friday morning and thought it was an abcess brewing. We poulticed it, and low and behold, Saturday morning, there was a stinky burst abcess under his poultice!!!

1 week later, he is pretty much sound again! Phew!

I was ready for getting the vet out, x-rays etc done, however, am glad it was just an abcess!

Fingers crossed the poultice will show an abcess in the next day or so!! :)
