Hi.
My pony has been "broken leg lame" i' d describe it, so we got the vet.
She diagnosed an abcess and a day after examination the vet said it popped out of the coronet band.
We were advised to poultice for a few days until the pad went clear. But after 2 days she has a large swolen white band but no visible discharge?
Our pony normally is free to roam 24/7 so after 2/3 days stabled to keep her hoof dry she's now beginning to get overexcited biting at our other companion pony who we've kept with her and charging around and rearing up( hoof seems better) but she still pivots awkwardly and holds it off the floor frequently.
Question is should we let her out now, but the land is obviously wet and boggy in places and we don't want to re-infect the hoof, but we can't see any discharge signs??? Carry on poultice or let her go?

I would phone the vet and tell them what is happening. Our vets do not charge for advice over the phone.

We have been in a similar situation in the past and able to put a waterproof poultice boot over dressing ...
If she is still lame, I would definitely ask the vet as there is a swelling but no discharge

Hope she is soon better

Tempted to say the white swelling is just the cornet band being kept wet for a few days, they can do that when fresh air is not around them. But if you can get vets advice.

Thanks for the replies,
Will speak to vet if we can contact.
Agree bluebellfreddy we think it's just the band being covered.
Going to see how she looks tomorrow after hoof uncovered overnight.
