I have just taken the barefoot plunge. I am using a brilliant farrier at present but am interested to know who everyone else uses and if anyone has any good reviews?

My girl has been barefoot for about 4 weeks now and is really struggling to wanted to get some support/advice from someone else as my farrier is a nightmare to get a hold of!

She an 8 yr old clydesdale x cob who is turned out during the day and in overnight - she has mats and a pellet bed that I keep as dry as possible to give her feet a chance to dry overnight. She is on spillers lite balancer and norvite hoof and skin supplement but I am away to change to forageplus after hearing/reading great reviews.

Any encouraging words of wisdom would also be appreciated as right now I feel like an awful person taking her shoes off!

If she is sound and happy then I would continue with your farrier. I do my own, but I'm afraid I would prefer to use one of the good farriers like Murray or Alec Aiken in preference to a trimmer (that's coming from someone who part trained as a trimmer, admin on a barefoot forum and and has barefoot horses)

In the Aberdeen area, I'd go with any of the Barefootworks trimmers: Dawn Saunders, Liz Lamb, Anni Stonebridge. I wouldn't touch most of the local farriers with a bargepole (which one do you use? PM if you like?). If they're all full, they can recommend someone competent.

Dawn Saunders is very good. Personally, though, when I've had barefoot horses, I've used my farrier, Jason Sim. He's been great, and adjusts his trims really well depending on what I've needed - I know a few people don't get on with him personally, but he's a good farrier.
