Hey Aberdeen folks!

Does anyone know of a riding instructor that specialises in bitless riding? I dont even know if you get such a person but I am considering going bitless for hacking my girl and I would like someone who specialises in this to give us a few lessons before we venture out on a hack. I could probably just school myself but would be good to have someone on the ground who knows what they are talking about.......

I have a classical riding instructor but for those lessons we ride with a bit so would prefer someone who has a lot of knowledge on the subject.
Thanks :)

You should be looking for assistance from a Parelli 2* or 3* before you do this.

It's not "like classical riding but just taking the bit away". It's a different style.

We ride bitless using Parelli hackamore and halter (and usually bareback) except for the youngster on the roads, he's not ready for bitless on the roads yet.

There's a place out near Fyvie does lessons I think.,

Depends what you mean by bitless? If you mean riding in a hackamore/ dr cook/ sidepull/ cross under bridle then a lot of show jumpers have experience with these and would be worth a try. I've found the bitless bridles ive ridden in to give less directional finesse and require a lifht hand due to pressure on nose/poll/ jaw but otherwise not be too different from riding in a bit.

However if you want to ride in a halter or by a piece of string or whatever then you might need a specialist instructor.

Also worth checking your insurance if you want to hack out in a halter - friend of mine got a shock that she wasn't covered to ride on the road if not bitted.
