I posted last year about the death of a friends horse after an accident on this route (there were several non fatal ones too on other tracks using the same or similar design) involving a specific design of lipped drain channel.

I'm pleased to report that the track managers (Cairngorm Outdoor Access Trust) were very willing to make modifications as soon as they were made aware of the issue and they have confirmed today that the track involved in the accident (the Tarland way) has now been modified so it is now safe for horseriding use. The modification involves a grid cover to ensure hooves cannot enter the drain channel and become trapped.

In addition they state that next Wednesday they are planning to do similar works on paths at Cambus and Dinnet (the Dinnet oak wood).

I have thanked them for undertaking these works on behalf of all the local horseriders.

So the Tarland way is now safe to use, which is very good news.
