i just said the same thing to my OH! as soon as i got married i left the area. lol

if you go further down the west coast then there are more suitable places for hacking but to be honest Aberystwyth isn't the best. even the surrounding areas can be a bit tricky for hacking.

Rheidol Riding Centre is about 10 mins' drive from Aberystwyth - smallish friendly but professional livery yard & riding school with very experienced & helpful local BHS qualified owner, facilities include indoor & outdoor schools, X country course and off-road hacking, plus on-site instruction and they hold competitions there too - you can find their website on Google.

As above, I could think of better places to relocate to, but if you can commute, there is a place called Machynlleth 18 miles inland, bus and train commuting to Aber is easy and the riding there would be breathtaking. I am sure that I could find someone there with stables or grazing should you need it :) The people there aren't all that bad either ;)

I went to Aber for my Masters and took my horse, I was livered on the Llanbabdarn campus and the hacking wasn't brilliant but do-able, the yard and facilities were nice and I enjoyed the course. I heard a rumour they were selling off the site anyway though?
Out of interest what are you looking to do?
For my under grad I went to Nottingham and was at the Sutton Bonnington Campus which was a great place, loved every minute and ace position for the horses, but it would depend on the courses you are looking at.

i was born in Aberystwyth, went to school and college there. i left the area when i was 20yrs old!

my mother used to have a trekking centre in Borth and we used to ride along the beach everyday and it was great but the riding on the beach has now been restricted. the beach in Aber is useless and horrible to ride on!

in the last 7yrs the area has changed drastically, it's been expanded now and there is very little 'countryside' on the outskirts of Aber.

Well I spent a long time there and think its a nice little place. I lived there age 8-24yrs, so some time. I did live out in the countryside for about 7years, that was the most amazing riding you could ever wish for, we had our own land out in a place called Bontnewydd, not a million miles away from Tregaron.
I also went to Uni there. I was glad to move on when I did though as the work opportunities just aren't there and it is a small place with not alot going on in truth, great to bring up kids or retire.

Rheidol is a popular place as listed here, I think you would want to be just outside the town for hacking though. I did keep my mare at the University stables for a few years when my parents sold up the small holding. There was not really much hacking about there but it was a nice yard, think its quite expensive though.

Law on here knows that area so I am sure she would not mind advising of some places if you do want to look a little further into moving there :D

I kept my mare out at Borth for about a year, the beach was amazing to ride on, I remember Seren's eyes popping out f her head when she first caught sight of the sea though! Shame they have restricted it, such fab riding, think there are a couple of yards/liveries out that way

moggy i moved to tregaron for a couple of years and went to sixth form in tregaron comp so i know bontnewydd.

we used to love riding on the beach in borth, it was lovely. the trekking centre used to be at sea rivers caravan park but shut down around 1984 and the trekking centre on the flats (i only know it as bog house as it was just a house on the bog!) took over.
the wildlife people have got very pro active now on the beach and the wildlife reserve is now a big thing down there which is why i think they have limited the riding. we used to be able to ride up into the sand dunes and all that and had pony club meetings there!

God,I never got to ride when I lived in Machynlleth, my sister did but the local riding school yard owner had a lot of horses on loan for the riding school and did a moonlight bunk with them all, at that time there was nowhere else to ride so I didn't start till we moved to Torquay when I was 11. We used to drive back there a lot to see my extended family and we always used to come over the top through Dylife, I always thought it would be the perfect place to just jump on and ride.

Blimey I would never think that someone on here would know where Bontnewydd is lol. Its such a tiny place in the middle of no where. It was absolutely fantastic growing up out there, the riding was just amazing :D
