So height certificates for FEI ponies have been abolished and for the first time a 2cm allowance given, meaning that ponies can measure up to 151cm with shoes on.

However the FEI considers the absolute limit for a pony to be 148cm

Aparenty the margin of 2cm has been given to allow for changes in circumstances at competitions - how can height fluctuate this much tho??

Isn't that a 3cm allowance (151-148=3)

I don't know why i'm excited though because the trouble is I would never sell her!!
At least now she can aim for the pony team with her rider who is only 13 rather than be against the horses for a spot on the junior team!

its 2cm allowance plus 1cm for the shoes so yes 3cm total.

And yes ponies who are truely 148 can grow 2cm because they hold them selves up as tense when at competitions. All the ponies have to be measured at every competition and if there are 60-100+ ponies you can be sure the measuring officials will not want to be faffing about waiting for every pony to relax.

Daughters little mare measures 148 when at home relaxed, but when out at a party holds herself up and is bigger. She also grows 1cm foot in 6 weeks so has to be measured when trimmed.

This rule has come just too late for us as we have decided to go down the JRN route as we also have a horse. I suppose she is an FEI pony (potential) though as they jump the same tracks. (Her dressage is more suited to Novice though as she would struggle with the intermediate dressage required by fEI)

the problem is there are so many ponies holding life height certs that are way over height. i think its a good move. do they intend to measure at competions or are they just making it a general rule that a 148 pony could be another 3cm over?

Well I bet there are going to be a few more ponies with an FEI price tag on now.

If your pony can sell for that kind of value then well done.
