Abprozole Plus - has anybody used this for treatment of ulcers?

Hi everybody,

As the title says really! I have searched on the forum and found many threads on this topic but they are quite dated, so I’m interested to read more recent opinions!

I used abgard and absucralfate to treat suspected ulcers last month - insurance has all run out and made an assumption they had probably come back due to surgery and box rest so just treated with half dose. My horse doesn't show any symptoms so difficult to tell if it worked or not but my bill was 50% less for using that over Peptizole!

Yes and No.
The abler stuff is illegal to import. It’s made in India and FDA has some issues with it too. That doesn’t mean it’s rubbish but you take your chances on both quality control and any customs repurcussions.

Gastroguard is now off patent and there are plenty of alternatives - all a bit cheaper but not massively so.

Even if Gastroguard is off patent, there are no biosimilars approved by the VMD for use/sale within the UK.

I might be about to either make a fool of myself, or if not be pedantic, but I didn’t think omeprazole was a biologic. Which, unless veterinary definitions are different (?) would mean there wouldn’t be any biosimilars. There are however generics approved in the UK which are being routinely prescribed in big centres as an alternative to gastroguard

Yes i have used it and know lots of other people who have too. It worked great for my horse. Happy to share more info if you drop me a PM
