Over the last few months me and my friend have started taking our ABRS stable management exams :)
We are currently on 2+3 and have our tests tomorrow for both of those, we are confident with every question apart from fitting three types of noseband, we can do cavesson and drop but can anyone tell us the exact measurements (preferably in finger widths to keep it simple ;)) on how to fit a grakle noseband?
Thank you in advance :p

The top straps fasten behind the jaw and the position is slightly higher than with a cavesson noseband, it should be just below the projecting cheekbone. The lower straps are like a flash noseband, they fit below the bit and in the chin groove. Make sure that the buckle fastening is well away from the lips so it can't rub. Buckle it in the same place as both flashers I.e.at front away from lips, don'tbuckle it in the chin groove.

It is a stronger noseband as it acts on a larger area of the head with a pressure point on the nose. It stops a horse from opening the mouth or crossing his jaw. It should have a little pad, usually leather lined with sheepskin where the straps cross over the nose to avoid chafing. Needs to be higher than the cavesson so doesn't interfere with breathing. Also the top strap is fastened slightly tighter than a cavesson so the bottom straps don't pull it out of position.

Hope this helps and good luck to you both.!

Heya just thought I'd wish you good luck! I passed my level 3 and 4 a couple of weeks ago for both the riding and stable management.

If you can I would highly recommend getting the ABRS guidelines booklet it covers all you need to know for the levels. Ask to order one when they send your results off. Costs about a £5 I think.

Let us know how you get on :)

Good luck! I remember doing all my ABRS exams... did riding and stable management all the way up to what was then Gold but I think is now just called 10!

Thank you again everyone :) me and my friend are aiming to get all the way to 10 in the riding and stable management but we haven't started the riding yet :P we will have a look at the book aswell for next time ;) might be a good investment :D
