Abscess and shoes??

Hi all,
as you may have known my tb has had an abscess cut out and drained. He had box rest while poulticed and now he is out in the field. he is sound in all paces in the arena and field but on uneven concrete he is a little footy. i wouldnt say he is lame just tender. He has been shoeless for a year but he has only just begun to work since may and he is soon to start hacking out more. I am wondering if he will benefit form shoes for atleast a couple of farrier visits to try and help with the tenderness especially as he will be hacking more. It is now 2weeks since his abscess was cleared out.
What do you tend to do/would do after an abscess?

When my horse once had a very nasty big abcess, he had it cut out and drained by the vet was box rested for 2 weeks and antibiotics/bute, shoe off, after that he was deemed sound so he was shod and as a temporary measure the farrier fitted a pad for 6 wks so no dirt could get in to the foot. If you decide to go down the shoe less route then hydrogen peroxide and magnesium sulphate paste may help but prob best to see what your farrier/vet suggests! good luck hope he's better soon!

My lad has a very small hole in the toe of his hoof folllowing our vet cutting out a small amount of 'muck' week before last - only a tiny bit of 'gunk' (2 days work of poulticing and then clear) but he's now walking and trotting just fine around the field but I was told to stick a boot on him until the next farrier visit (5 more weeks). He was very lame at the time.

unfortunately i dont want to spend a fortune on boots he had an old mac and it just rubbed him. and that was only when hacking, so not an option to be on for longer periods without spending a fortune trying more boots.
Thanks i will be speaking to my farrier about it and he will prbably suggest he needs shoes on with pads as he is quite flat footed and to be honest his feet chip terribly whilst barefoot!!
