This week a dark patch came up on the outer edge of my horses hoof - between the sole and the wall almost. No heat in the foot or unsoundness just this dark patch - it looked like where an abscess had come out. Poked it a bit, purple sprayed it and carried on as usual. Today we went on a little hack around the road and when I got back and picked out his feet there was a hole where the patch had been and there was grit and gravel in it - I washed it out with iodine solution to get all the dirt etc out and he's fine and happy.
Do I need to do anything about it? Should I keep him in and pack the hole or anything or just carry on as usual as clearly he has no pain or anything - have never experienced this sort of hole in the foot! Farrier is coming out to trim up next week so in sure he will have a good look then
