Geez I’m fed up. Vet came out again. Fourth visit. Has now dug half his hoof away. Drained some pus but he’s so difficult to do now. Not surprising. I’m on my own and I’m just about done Dogs poorly too Arggh!

No advice to offer but please have a virtual hug. It must be so draining that this has gone on for so long.

Thank you. The dog tipped me over the edge! Lying here crying. If he’s not sound soon I really will struggle. He’s so difficult on box rest.

The dog unfortunately will have to have surgery. It’s a mass that’s coming back after previous surgery to remove it :-( Shes only one.
Feeling tired and very sorry for myself.

Sorry it's not going well PP, I hope things turn a corner for you all soon.

It sounds like you're possibly going to need a boot for when he can go out again. If so, Cavallo trek are sold as singles, about the cheapest, and make good turnout boots.

I'm so sorry that the news isn't better for you. Does he have to be on box-rest? My vet said that exercise was better to encourage the abscess to drain, although if your ground is as muddy as ours is currently, I can see that keeping him in would be advisable.

Have they discussed operating/pedal bone scrape given the xray results?

Sorry to hear about your dog too, you're having a really rough time of it :(

I'm sorry you're having such a tough time, pistolpete. Can't offer any advice but have a big virtual *hug*. I really hope the latest dig sorts the abscess and that your dog gets better soon too.

Yes pedal bone scrape has been mentioned. What’s involved?

They cut open the foot, expose the bone, scrape out any infection and close the foot with a special shoe and a screw on plate that can be removed to treat the wound and put back again. Generally successful, I think, even though it sounds very nasty. I've known several successful ones.

I hope it doesn't come to that.

Yes it's fairly involved, I guess atm they are just hoping the antibiotics resolve it but I did think given what you said about the xrays they might have had him in to do the scrape.

Sounds like progress. If he's got a big hole in his foot he'll be sore for a couple of weeks most likely.

Got my fingers crossed it's sorted for you both.
