Tomorrow vet will X-ray as he’s back on three legs. He’s had a full week sound but back with a vengeance this morning. So sorry for the poor little chap. I’ve given up and put him in a stable. He’s slipping and limping in the mud. Too pitiful to watch. Please tell me some happy abscess recovery stories.

Mine has had abcesses swapping from each hinds for the last six weeks.

The last one in his right hind resulted in a xray as he was just colicing from the pain and it was not bursting.
Thankfully we did as it was mm from his pedal bone.

He is now a week later sound, it's stopped draining. He has been on antibiotics and his hooves will be wrapped until the hole has grown out.

I've just read your previous thread, and seen how long its been going on for :( Poor you x x

My hubby's ex raceer was terribly prone to abcesses, and I remember one which had two exit holes, one at the top of his heel and one at the bottom, so the vet had us flush with hydrogen peroxide once a day to kill the bacteria, and let the tract actually heal.

The horse was a complete villain to handle, but on this occasion he stood as still as a lamb each day as we 'injected' his foot with H2O5 every day, and watched it fountain out the top.....

Good luck tomorrow for the x-rays.

OP, have you had a TRH Stim test? If the ACTH test came back as normal, please do the alternative test. My mare had 3 months worth of recurrent abscess which cleared up as soon as she was on Prascend. The other horse's ACTH test kept coming back normal but the TRH test was way over.

Finally we have a plan. Possible pedal osteitis which isn’t good news but definitely going to dig further for pus first. Re X-ray in ten days to confirm or deny bone infection. He’s allowed some bute at least.
