Hey, Sorry for the daft title, I cant think of how to describe it!

My new boy has had an abscess at some point prior to my buying him. It was pointed out at the vetting that he had had one, he is perfectly sound and my farrier isn't bothered by it. Its now about an inch down from his cornet band and about an inch wide, seems kinda deep though!

I've read a few sites and understand this is just the crack that is left after the abscess has erupted, that it will grow down in time and will eventually be trimmed off. However as the "crack" is quite long and deep, is there anything else I should be doing to take care of it? I've had a look at some dissected hooves :redface3: and I guess the hoof wall is a lot thicker than I thought...

So... Stop being a dafty and let nature takes its course? Or anything I should be doing to ensure it doesn't get bigger/cause issues? ( apart from of course trying to make sure he doesn't get any more!)

Thank you kindly :)
