Tonight I had possibly the best lesson I've ever had with my instructor. She has taught me for 3 solid years and has taught me everything I know about riding (I've been riding for just over 4 years but spent the first year riding at a not-so-good yard).

I don't have my own horse as it's just too much of a financial commitment. Tonight I rode a horse my instructor has in to sell. His previous owner bought him off her 5 years ago so he's been in a private home with 1 person riding him since then. She asked me to get on and see what I think of him. So I did.

He was absolutely lovely, and everything I asked for he did. A few of the kids in on holiday were watching and he was going beautifully on the bit, so well balanced and listening to me!!!

We went onto some jumping too. My instructor said tonight was the first time I showed that I understood what holding the horse together and keeping control of the outside of him meant...

it was like something clicked and it felt sooo good to know she thought I had improved

I just had to tell someone- neither of my parents are horsey so as much as mum listens she doesn't understand bless her half of what I'm saying

Just goes to show what a good instructor can do to your riding. She's put me on 14hh ponies to 18hh shire x tb's, and I rarely ride the same horse for more than 2 weeks running... Best way to spend £28 a week if you ask me

Very tempted, but just can't afford the outlay of a horse and then all the upkeep at the moment

Keeping my eye out for a share or any horses that need a ride though, but there aren't many around
