My friend keeps her veteran mare next to a footpath. Poor girl has navicular, gets laminutus at the drop of a hat, and is a very much loved pet (not ridden or anything).

Friend got to yard the other day to find some kids in the paddock chasing the mare. Now my friend is no shrinking violet and absolutely let rip at them. Not sure how young she means by 'kids' though, but she said they ran off.

Couple of days later, she got to paddock to find mare has swollen legs - which implies she's been chased again, or worse, ridden!

Gates are padlocked, there's signs on the gates... what else can we do?

Poor thing is going to end up tanked up on bute again, which isn't fair on her!
 
Little sh*ts whatever the age.

Wish you could swap her with an evil, kicking, biting beast and teach them a lesson in how to respect horses :D

Other than that, a rifle.

Not very helpful but I hope the little "darlings" get taught a lesson. Feeling a bit raw after seeing a little boy being horrible to his puppy yesterday, oh for a whooping stick :mad:
 
I would go nuts with electic myself. Electric tape on the inside of the field to avoid getting the mare stung by it. Then I would put steel wire ontop of the outside fence. Wire makes the electric properly BITE! (I speak from experience I'm afraid, is some around the farm and I accidentally knock it more often than I would like).
 
Agree with Electric Fencing inside the paddock. The kids' parents wouldn't be able to complain if they did get "injured" as they were trespassing.

Or CCTV and get an asbo order...
 
dont think children can get done for trespassing if there is "something" there to entice them in? (from what I can recall from the law module I did at uni) if its true, a horse would most certainly count!
 
My friend has same problem, her's were only little ponies so kinds could get on easy!!!

She put cow electric fencing up (apparently cow fencing has a bigger bite than horse electric fencing.) and her fencing was sheep wire at the bottom so as they stood up on the fence, one foot on wire and one hand on the electric fencing!!!! Oh how they ran :D, but mothers came after complaining about it, we got away with it as we had electric fencing signs up!! So I would put them up aswell just incase. Hehe

Hope she can stop the little buggers
 
The kids certainly shouldn't be anywhere near the horse but I wonder if practically it would be better to befriend them and try to explain to them why they should not be behaving this way, or failing that, finding out where they live and talking to their parents. It's understandable that your friend shouted at them, but it may have made the whole 'adventure' a lot more fun for them.

If she uses electric fencing she should make sure she puts up warning signs.

depending on the age of the children though the parents could be done for neglect if they allowed their kids out unsupervised and the child got hurt.
