hey as above im looking for something to sit on top of rubber mats and under straw ? never used anything but straw but need a thin layer as straw is not absorbant
cheers guys :D

I use (on top of rubber mats, no straw on top) wood pellets mixed with Aubiose. But wood pellets alone would be good. Horses seem to love the forest floor-y type bed, even if to humans we dont think its fluffy duvet enough!

I use wood pellets - only stuff to cope with piddly Farra Clydesdale, very economical and really you don't need straw on top of them. I have very thick mats with a 3 - 4" deep bed on top over half the stable which does the trick.

I use allbed, its newish and its been brought out to under cut easibed, its the same stuff. its £5.25 a bag and comes in two in differant types. You use the big chips to make up the bed and then add 1/3 of small flakes to make it extra absorbant. I only use the big flakes but my stable neighbour uses a mix. I put in 1/2 bale a week; for me that makes it cheaper than straw, as a bale a week is £1.75 but horsey eats it so i get though 2-3 bales costing me £3.50 min where as all bed costs £2.60ish

Which company make it?

Liverpool wood pellets. Order online, pay by paypal, pile em in tackroom, chuck 8 bags down, throw bucket of water over them if you can be bothered, take poo and wet out, top up 2-3 bags a week.

Simples. (and cheap).

Found it?

Does it ever look fresh? I tried pellets but couldn't get over the always looking like it needs a fresh load situation.

My horse is a box walker and this seems to provide a good bed without moving to much so he still has a good bed to roll in, colour wise still looking fresh, i leave the wet in and take it out once a week, it doesnt need topping up as much as shavings, i think.

The only down side is i find a plastic shavings fork not strong enough to lay down the bed, its not heavy to move but it sort of kits together, which means its good for a box walker, as it doesnt get kicked about so much. However for pulling down the banks a little more effott is required, but its not too bad, its still pretty easy to use bed down.

Also they doing a discount on bulk orders atm. I get mine from a farm shop called wynnstay (think thats how you spell, its how you say it any how)
