I am thinking of getting a seat saver to go with my new cob saddle which feels a bit flat
I am struggling to see the difference between Gel in and Gel out, is the Gel in one just for comfort? or can it help keep your seat.
I'm tempted by the gel out but I don't want to be sticking to the saddle... Is it actually sticky or is it just more of a grip?

Has anyone got any experience with them?

Thanks

I have the gel out one, I use it on my leather saddle, it is sticky which is what I like, definitely helps stays in the saddle.

It depends on what sort of Jods you wear. Mine are not "sticky bums" so rising trot is fine, I find for canter it is what I need so I don't bounce around. My daughter rides in "sticky bum" jods and doesn't like the gel out as it makes it too grippy for her liking. I have 3 friends who have also bought the gel out and really like them...... mind you we are all over 50 so want to feel we have that bit more grip.

I tend to ride in jeans most of the time so it sounds like it will work, hehe i'm half way to 50 with the riding soul of a 75 year old! anything to help me feel more secure!!!

I ride in a gel out because I have lower back pain. I can't say as I've ever noticed it so sticky that I can't move. I can do riding trot as easily as In my other saddle which hasn't got a seat saver on. I love it!

I bought a gel out pad after a bad fall (off my flat wide cob saddle). I feel much more secure and no falls so far! It stops you sliding about.

I've got a gel out one and really like it. I've not noticed any problems with rising trot, that feels much the same. Its given me confidence and definitely makes me feel more secure. its also very comfy, I get off after a long ride still able to walk normally now instead of hobbling away!

I had the Gel Out, personally I didn't like it. It was very comfortable to sit on, but made everything too grippy for my liking. Used it 3 or 4 times, then sold it.

Shame as it was super comfy - I just felt stuck!

I have the Gel In one, it's suede-type stuff on the top, so helps with grip but doesn't glue you into position like I suspect the Gel Out one would. Very comfortable, I love mine.

I did get one to help me with my incredibly bouncy horse, but I found it annoying as it caught on my thighs a lot, it actually made me feel less secure somehow. But a friend at the stables has trialled it and loves it, so I'm selling it to her. They arent for everyone I guess, but try one and if it works, great.

I have the Gel out and love it, doesn't stick you in the saddle though, it's just very comfortable and if you have a big moving horse it does help to absorb some of the impact. Horse went to trainer for 10 days whilst I was on hols, he's a strong supple young professional rider and he loved it (much to his surprise) and is going to get one as he feels it will help to protect his back long term. I wouldn't be without mine now.

Slight hijack as I've been thinking about a gel-out for a while - do you find it makes a big difference to the fit of the saddle seat-wise? Whenever I've seen one in the flesh I've thought they looked quite thick ...

I have a gel in and it's very comfy but I don't like the way it attaches, it leaves marks in the flocking of the panels!!

I just cut those straps off, it stays in place fine without those side straps. I didn't find they left marks in the flocking though, I was worried in case they touched the horse, my saddle panels are fairly slim/flat.

I have the Gel Out and love it. I get really bad back pain due to Fibromyalgia so it's rare to find anything that helps but this has been a Godsend. I find the stickiness just about right...enough to be secure but doesn't impede on your riding.

You may have to alter your stirrup length and I do find the seat tends to slip slightly to one side as I tend to be "crooked" so I need to make sure it is completely straight when I mount but other than that, no, it doesn't make a difference. The straps are a fiddle initially, actually I couldn't work out how they attached but once I had got them in the right place they have stayed put. Some people find them a bit odd to ride in but I liked mine from the outset.

Its a while since I bought mine, one was new and one second hand on eBay. From what I can remember they do come in two thicknesses and I've ended up with one of each! One is definitely much thicker and heavier and did feel a little odd seat wise to start with. The other is thinner and lighter so far less noticeable when sat on. I haven't noticed a difference between them regards to comfort or grip though.

Thanks both - my saddle's really comfy and I was concerned the fit would be affected by a gel out!

rhylis - I think there's the standard seat saver and the cushion ride which is thicker :)
