My horse is rather accident prone, I feel like wrapping him in bubble wrap!
He managed to do this yesterday, just hoping it won't scar! ?

Best way to help treat this please, last night I cleaned and put cream on, but it didn't go on well due to it being too fresh!

Thank you!

I wouldn't put any cream on it as there is lots of evidence to suggest that creams can slow healing. Better to leave it open to the air, unless you think he's going to be rolling on it and dirtying it, in which case I'd be putting Melolin or a similar sterile dressing over top, and secure with some tape.

Also, it may just be my computer screen, but that lower cut looks a touch too yellow for my liking. Have you got the vet in to check it out?

Thank you, I've popped a rug on him as he is the dirty type (just worried about it rubbing)

It's the screen, it was all rather red/pink and the lighting was rather poor when I brought him in last night.

No vet yet, I got the yard manager to take a look this morning as well, to check it and the same if not a little scabbed over today!

May try your idea with dressing it for a day or 2 then let it breath and get the open air on it

Bloody clumsy boy ?

I wouldn't use a cream as this keeps the wound wet. I swear by wound powder patted into the wound once cleaned out. This aides in drying the wound and allowing it to breath so it can scab over. Once I have a decent scab I will start to use a small amount of bio oil. This has helped with the scaring. My boy unfortunately got tangled in wire around his legs and caused numerous cuts, he has no scars at all anywhere on both his back legs. I have done this with any little cut or nick. Hope he heals quickly.

I use good ole purple spray. My lad seems to have a thing for getting his nose into trouble so is sporting a purple nose - healing much faster than I expected.

Derma gel healing.

Day of injury.

The day after. With Derma gel on.

And how it has ended up. Still a small scar but the wound was very deep, which is perhaps not so obvious in pictures. The gel kept it clean and moist, which allows good granulation and migration of cells across the surface of the wound.

It's definitely my go to product for wounds now but there are other wound gels that would do the same job I'm sure.

If it's deep you want to keep it wet and open to let it heal inside outwards.

If its superficial then dry is better

I like green oils as an cheap, simple option - I slap it on like I do savlon on the kids.
