Accident prone mare

My mare seems to always find a way of hurting herself in some way or another. At the moment she is on field rest. Now as she is so accident prone the whole field around that she is in is electric fenced, at the moment split in half as i have just got a new mare.

So there is nothing at all for her to hurt herself or cause any damage. Well so i thought went up this afternoon and found her like this

She does have sweetitch but hasnt really damaged herself this year and even her mane is growing slowly. There is nothing at all in the field for her to have itched on to cause this and she is very afraid of the electric fence so cant be on that!

Have cleaned it up a lot as that was all blood when i got up there, very sore to touch. Didnt know what else to do with it, added some sudocream on as well. Didnt know what else to do with her? Did try to call vet to see if could do anything else for her but got no answer.

Someone suggest burn? Any other ideas?

Could it be the old broken skin from the sweet itch has peeled off, maybe if she rolled and scrubbed her neck along the ground or caught it from a stone or something?

Bless her, I would either get vet to come out and check her or send pics to the vet x

No broken skin at all from her sweet-itch, gonna try and ring vet on call again in morn.

Oh, you poor pet!! It's just not funny when they are accident prone. There was one particular mare years ago, that we call jinxy, thats how bad she was. everything that could go wrong, did!! vet came out to shoot her at one point, as diagnosed with broken leg, but farrier happened to be in the yard, looked at her(after vet did on 3 occasions), and found the drop in 2 mins. She and her foal got strangles, she had numerous cuts, and she was a silly old tb mare that was fairly useless!!
really hope you can de-jinx your horse. Mine are all worthless in todays market, so therefore, NOTHING will ever happen them!!

I know she has had most issues now, plastic sugury to her face where she cut her nose open 3 times in a row on a sunday, each sunday for the whole of jan nearly. Liver damage that is now sorted, aneamia, numerous cuts that have needed stitching. Fell over and set her legs off again why she is on field rest. Bone spavins, the list could go on with her.

The mark appears worse today so cream i added on hasnt helped at all. Just glad my other 3 are not as bad as her. She is worthless in value as well really - well maybe not as a broodmare as has great highland bloodlines. But i would never part with her.
