My neighbour was taken to hospital today. She fell off and the underwire in her bara speared her armpit!

It is very nasty because there are lots of major arteries and nerves in armpits.

Makes you think.... we all know not to ride with keys, hoofpicks and pens etc in our pockets, but you don't expect to be maimed by your underwear.

My sports bra has underwires in it (it's the Tesco one). I'm an E cup and need all the support I can get! Never thought about getting speared with it though. I always check mine though to make sure the bones aren't wearing through the fabric.

Hope your neighbour gets better soon!

Hope your poor friend feels better soon. It does indeed make you think.

When I ride I only have my mobile phone, some loose change/notes & lipbalm. That's probably about it.

I have in the past ridden in an ordinary bra. I wear a sports bra now but that is definitely extra incentive to do so.

Totally hear you sidesaddle girl - Im an F cup also and always feel like a I need a sturdy underwired bra for riding. After reading about the spearing incident though I think I will be making every effort to find a reasonably supportive non-wiredd sports bra lol.

That happened to me my horse spooked did a huge buck which ended up with me being thrown onto a barb wire fence (on a bridlepath) he then kicked out at me and caught me in the ribs and broke the wiring in my bra which also speared me.....I certainly learnt my lesson!

OMG that is terrible
Lets be honest riding is not the safest thing to be doing but would that stop us.......

Ha! I always said they were instruments of torture!
I HATE underwired bras with a passion!
Thankfully I'm not big in the boob department...but I never could figure out how that stupid little bit of wire was supposed to hold you up?

It's all a plot by men...<mutter, mutter>

Im a F to G cup and the shockabsorbers are the best scaffolding available. Ive never found any underwired bra that supports quite as well.

I was once stabbed by a bottle of rescue remedy I had in my pocket

LOL PF! Now that really is ironic - love it! Must get the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents to ban rescue remedy! Clearly v dangerous stuff! (Sorry - RoSPA is my pet hate - I call them the Royal Society for the Prevention of Rain on Bank Holidays!)

Re underwires - I don't need 'support' for my pathetic little 32-A bust, but I do quite often wear underwired bras cos they make my boobs look a bit bigger

OMG!
I really feel that I need my underwires but I did buy a berlei shockabsorber, I dont like the "monoboob" that it gives me though. I think I might look harder for another supportive sports bra though, that sounds awful.
