I noticed that there was some question about whether back protectors help or hinder.

I thought someone was doing a survey, because it certainly seemed to me that in Pony Club every child that fell off broke something, while wearing a back protector.

I grew up before back protectors had ever been invented, and we fell off, but very rarely got hurt, just at a rally for instance.
Is it that at Pony club level the child gets just any old thing to wear, just to comply with the rules, but it may not be the right size or anything?

Yet I know that they have really saved some people from serious injury.

it saved me from punchered ribs and in my pony club to normal rallies you dont have to ware a body pro and have seen lots of falls a couple have bin nasty but no brocken bones yet apart from me and my knee lol

It's because you can't tuck and roll in most body pros... esp the kids ones which are bought to "grow into." I don't wear mine precicly for the reason that it makes me more likly to fall off. if racing body pros get up to standard with new technology then i may be pursuaded.

I fell off my horse backwards onto a jump with my back protector on, I couldn't walk for a few days but the doctor said I would've certainly broken my back if I hadn't have had it on.
