Has anyone been on the accredited course which you have to do in order to teach for the Pony Club? Would be interested to hear what it is like and what the costs are.
Been on one today!!
They should not cost you if you are a PC instructor anything as your PC pick up the bill.
They can be 'mixed' in there appeal and usefulness.
Depends on your experience i suppose. For the young instructors i think they are very good and give ideas , mostly about jumping exercises.
One i went to last time was dire ; taken by a FBHS and she was awful and about as interesting as watching paint dry.Today was Dickie Waygood and he , as expected was interesting and the jumping exersices were thought provoking and flexible intheir use and application .
Only thing was that all the guinea-pigs were B test candidates and that ain't going to happen at PC camp when you have a bunch of overtired 7 yr olds, like i say its relevance is limited.
BD have a much better instructors convention which looks at teaching techniques as well as the subject of the lesson with different pupils and horses working on different things, flatwork and pole work with a forum based discussion.
Money much better spent.
Thanks for your response. I don't have much teaching (riding) experience (though am a qualified school teacher)...I just contacted my local PC to see how I could get more experience teaching with them and they said I would have to go to a course. Did you have to teach on this course?? Or was it just watching?
Its just watching.I would suggest you go and then hook up with a more experienced trainer.
I am a specialist as i only do the 'team' and 'area' kids but i much admire the instructors that work with the 'littleies' as i call them , with your interest and teaching background you would probably be very useful.
You will have all the CRB checks in place so go and muck in on a summer camp that cerainly is a baptism of fire but huge fun!
My Mum is the secretary of one of our local Pony Clubs (well she has just given it up but is still involved!) so can find out when they are next running one. Im quite sure it was this time last year i went to the last one so it can't be to long until the next one.
I also tend to teach the littleies (i als call them that!) so the relevance of the last course i went on was limited! Dont think i need to teach shoulder in to 6yr olds!
I also teach at the camps which is as Partoow says is massive fun!!
