For the last few days my mare's poo has been a bit cow pat like and stronger smelling (smells acidic).
She seems fine in herself.
Is this just due to the spring grass and do I need to worry?
I have some limestone flour - would adding a bit to her feeds help? (and how much for a 14.1hh pony)

Yes, the spring grass is probably affecting her digestion... cow pats means the feed is passing through without being properly processed, and the good bacteria in her gut will have died off due to it being quite acidic in there.

Get yourself some Yea-Sacc (there's another thread on here about it at the moment I think). You feed one 15ml scoop a day and it works wonders ;)

You can get it on eBay, just do a search (make sure to get YeaSacc not Brewer's Yeast, big difference ;)). It is cost effective... a bag lasts all through spring grass flush and it's good for horses in other ways too (lots of B vitamins). I feed it to a very grass sensitive mare and it is amazing the difference it makes... not just solid poos, but because she's processing her feed better, her coat looks shinier and her hooves are better too.
