I had it done on 5th Dec, the surgeon told me I couldn't ride for 16 weeks...

I am now getting very bored and its feeling pretty good, only a couple of degrees off full bend and getting stronger every day.

Has anyone else had it done and if so how long were you off riding?

If I'm going to do it damage I'll be sensible

but really getting very frustrated and want to get the black git fit for eventing so I don't waste the early season getting him fit, I didn't do any til after July last year cos of his recovery from surgery...It was walking him out in hand that meant I knackered my knee.. the sod whipped round on me and twisted it!! Even though I had a chifney in his gob and a chain over his nose...

I waited 2 weeks - but in hindsight it was a mistake as I had to get off horse to open gate, gate fell over and horse pissed off leaving me hobbling with worry about my ACL and the horse who was galloping up the A38 and over Motorway bridge!

I think if you can walk properly and you have good movement in the joint you will be fine. Oh also if the horse is sane! But I had hamstring repair and never needed a brace.

Used to work for the Professor of Orthopaedics here - don't even think about riding - take it easy and take the advice you were given - will be much worse if the reconstruction fails as so many patients tried to hurry things along to their cost mostly and then have to go through it all again

Well its been 8 weeks since my op... I see the surgeon today so I will ask him, but I expect they would tend to be over cautious!!
I have been told that if you screw it up its never so successful 2nd time around!!

I agree completely with Catherineanne. I had an ACL reconstruction 2 years ago but because I did not rest as long as I was told I landed up having a further two operations! So follow exactly what the surgeon says

Forgot to say - if you want to see how long it takes to get over the whole thing (if you don't follow the surgeons advice) then feel free to read my blog which is in the link below. Should be enough to make you rest as long as needed!
