My mare has severe seperation anxiety, from another horse. Someone has recommended aconite. A homeopathic remedy. Its dead cheap, was wondering whether anyone has used it in a similar situation, and whether it was successful?

Have considered nupa-feed but it is quite expensive, she freaks out when she is seperated from this mare. I have tried rotating her with other horses when she is out but she isnt interested in them. It is doing my head! xx

Aconite is more generally used for shock so may not be the best thing to give your mare for seperation anxiety.

I would be more inclined to use something like a magnesium supplement on a daily basis to help chill her out and then use rescue remedy at times of need.

Nupa feed is very expensive but if you want to go down that route I have been using Karma magnesium liquid from Blue Chip for the last 6 weeks and it really does work well. Much cheaper!

i use magic calmer for my mare but she is very spooky as well as seperation anxiety. in the stable a mirror can help.

Aconite does work but if you are using Herbal remedies already then maybe try Sculltera, its from the same people Equus Health.

I use 2 Aconite with 2 Sculltera for my lad with seperation anixety and this chills him wonderfully and he can enjoy the day without worrying about where his pairbond is....

As already said Aconite is for stress, calming & shock.
It would best to use it with Ignatia & Sepia (both homeopathic as well) which I have used for weaning & seperation anxiety. I would personnaly use it in a 10M potency which you will struggle to get in a shop. A 30ml should cost around £12 & you could get them made in the same bottle which would just cost £12 in total!
