Acorns

Hi, my horse has been in his new field for a few weeks now and he seems really tired and moody since he's been in there, I thought it was because he has a big grass belly but I saw him munching on acorns tonight, do they have that effect?

Acorns and Oak leaves can be poisonous to horses. Especially if they eat a lot of them. Fence off around any Oak trees especially in autumn

They can do yes, but in very large quatities. Probably tired cos the grass is rich at the mo. If i were you tho, i'd section acorns off if possible, they really aren't very good for them and can become addictive!

Has anyone had any experience with Walnut trees? We've got one in our paddock (horses not in there at mo) and I keep meaning to check if Walnuts are poisonous? There are loads of Walnuts falling off the tree now so its going to take me ages to pick them all up if they are!

Walnuts that have been left on the ground in damp areas grow a mold that is extremely toxic if ingested. To avoid "moldy walnut poisoning", as well as the potential for intestinal obstruction caused by the ingestion of whole walnut shells, keep yards free of all fallen walnuts.
Contact your veterinarian if you suspect your dog has eaten walnuts, or if your dog displays any signs of vomiting, tremors or seizures.

I would fence off anything like that if I were you! Just ingesting too much of that sort of thing is bad enough. I think black walnuts are toxic

Acorns can be fatal - my pony died of acorn poisoning when I was 11. Moomin get your horse away from the acorns now before it is too late.

Accorns are poisions to horses fence all the accorns off. you know he has been eating them so put him on a tub of de tox from naf that will flush all the toxins away i did this with my boy when i found him eating them!
