Actually waterproof rug brands 50/100g

Shires Highlander Plus.

My very first Swish rugs were waterproof but the newer one's are not. Apparently, they are even advertised as not waterproof on their website ...

I had my old TB out in her Wetherbeeta in all that rain and wind yesterday. The rug must be at least 5 years old and she came in as warm and dry as she was when she went out. I use them on all my horses and they seem to fit a chunky 15.1 cob, a large 16.1 IDx as well as the TB who is a slim 15.2

I am an Amigo fan and must admit have non matching neck covers as bought separately. I like using different weight necks to rugs. I thought I had a spare Amigo neck which is a bit small for mine which would have offered to you but discovered it’s a JHL so different fittings.

I’ve heard really mixed things about swish - some have said they are great, others that they’ve leaked from the start

I have two. I actually think my older one is more waterproof than I bought this year! They are both 0g but I have an 100g liner and I used it with my newest rug but the liner was damp the next day (it had rained a lot) and I know 0g is only really showerproof but I’m not keen on the fact it is then wet and sitting on the liner which obviously isn’t waterproof which makes me wonder if I’d be better with a 50g and then adding a liner 🤔 they aren’t cheap to experiment with though! Which takes me back to am I better with a 100g rug with the filling already in rather than using a liner? I’ll try the liner with my older swish this week (it’s not meant to rain much so should be ok) but currently when it’s been warm and raining this week I’ve been using both 0g together to
give a double waterproof layer.

I used to swear by shires but now I’m lucky if they survive one winter.

As much as I thought they would be crap, I bought Lemieux turnouts this year and I wish I’d bought them sooner!! No leaks at all even in torrential all day rain.

Do these come up broad? I used to get Shires Highlander but finding very few online so assumed they'd stopped making them
Cob measures at exactly 6'3" but his shoulders then rub and over the years I've tried several makes. So I get him a 6'6". It fits better everywhere and the neck opening looks ok but the rain just runs in,it must go down his neck and wick in or maybe if he stands sideways on to it it might just blow in. I really need to experiment fastening the front tighter maybe 🤔. Not sure what to do. I can't remember if other brands in the past did the same. Other than that it's a good waterproof rug even in last night's heavy downpour.

Copied this from Swish website as was about to get angry having bought a Swish rug fairly recently... I've calmed down now!
Though to be fair, even my 'waterproof' fly rugs of theirs seem to stay leak free in a monsoon, so I should have been more trusting!
... we only like to state our no fill turnout rug as shower proof as in long periods of heavy, constant rain the rug has no filling to help the materials breath meaning condensation may build up which may cause patches of dampness. Similar to an anorak coat!
