Do you still give your horses oil and garlic as well as a feed balancer (top spec, blue chip etc) for general well being, coat etc or is it not needed?

At present I am feeding Cod Liver Oil as that is what I have always done- but having thought about it in more depth I am not sure I agree with feeding animal derived products to a vegeterian so which oil is best? Preferably one which won't make him explode!

I may be wrong but I think it provides slow release energy- I use the 5l bottle from the link that I posted. One of my horses is naturally very sharp and forward and it doesn't seem to have affected him- just makes them look '' well''.

Sorry also meant to say that I dont feed much of it- I think some oils they tell you to feed it in '' mugfuls" however mine get a tablespoon am and pm in their feed so that probably stops them from going loopy lou lou!

Blue Chip Lami Light (he has'nt ever suffered with Lami am I am not even concerned that he might) but it was what was recommmended by the nutritionist I spoke too and when I then read the write up it sounds ideal. Maybe I should just leave it and see how we go? Feeding Garlic will be OK still won't it?

Yes- I feed a garlic supplement with the linseed oil. I don't use a balancer feed as such however if your horse is used to receiving it, it might be better to continue with it and just add the oil as an extra to their feed.

Codliver oil is high in omega 3 so is good for their joints. The only other oil that is high in omega 3 is linseed oil - so if you want a joint supplement then go for linseed (you should only feed a little bit a day though).
