additional costs for services at DIY yard

I'm sure this has been done a million times but....

What is the going rate for additional services when your horse is at DIY

eg bringing in (includes leg washing but no rug change), turning out, mucking out, giving late night hay.

Would you expect to pay less if it was a regular thing eg bring in every day rather than a one off?
 
we pay a pound per bring in turn out. 50p a rug change.

Feeding and haying is free!
Its £10 a day for full livery.
£10 for lunging
£15 for schooling or lesson

Pretty fair really
 
Not sure if you are aware but if you offer additional services other than just renting out stable and grazing (ie pure DIY) then you are obliged to charge VAT on the additional services.

If your YO does bring ins or rugs for you for say £1.50 a time then in theory they should also charge you VAT on top of that £1.50.
 
I pay £2 a morning for turnout which seems enough but the YM is fantastic and does so many other things for me free of charge. She brings him and presents him for the farrier, brings him in and gives hay if the hunt are coming past and feeds him every single morning

Livery is only £86 a monthk, haylage is £7 a month and straw £4 a month so I'm a happy bunny

At our yard if you want any additional jobs done on top of DIY, prices are as follows -

Bedding down - £2
Catch - £2.50
Turnout - £2.80
Catch & Wash off - £3.50
Catch, Wash off and change rugs £4
Feed, net, muckout & turnout £4.60
Feed, net & turnout £3
Exercise - £10
Put feed & net in £1.20
Handling for vet or farrier £5.50

No vat charged that i know of...
 
Surely vat is only payable if they have sufficient turnover?

Also in my case the sevices are to someone else, not the yard owner so presumably vat doent apply?
 
Is two pound per horse for bringing in and washing off legs reasonable then? Just seems a lot multiplied up by two horses for 5 days a week, or am I just a skinflint

I pay £3 per day for:

All rug changes
Turnout
Bring in
Muck out
Put any feeds and nets in

Although I bring her in, get her nets and feeds ready most days. I love spending time with her and it is really comical some days trying to get her in.
 
As others have said, you have to be VAT registered to charge VAT and you don't have to register until your t/o is over £68k per annum.
 
I know, I'm really lucky it's a great yard too. I could have virtually full livery for an extra £3 and it's only £24 per week for stable, turnout and the facilities. My haylage works out at £4 pw and shavings £5.50 pw.

The YO does some days and one of the other liverys does the other days. She gets the £3 knocked off of her bill and with two to pay for, it really helps her.
 
You only have to charge VAT is your turnover is such that you are VAT registered anyway!

We charge £1.00 to bring in/change rugs/feed and an extra 50p to hose off legs
£1 to turn out/change rugs/feed
£5 to muck out

But we have to add VAT to those which is a pain as it often means we look more expensive - even though we don't get the extra money!
 
ours is
feed/hay - 20p
turnout/bringin - £1 (not sure if thats each way though)
change rugs - 50p
lunge - £5
walker - £3

they dont offer full service/mucking out anymore, and no excercise other than lunge or walker.
 
I am vat registered because we have just set up the yard and can reclaim VAT on the purchases we have made. We include the VAT within the costs so we charge £1.00 to bring in and £1.00 to pick out feet and do rugs. But that includes VAT. Our part liveries pay VAT 9 included within the price on the service element of their contract but not on the provision of stable and grazing. but that is costed into the charge we make.

I know it seems expensive to the customer if they have a couple of horses but to be honest to the YO it makes no difference how many horses each individual owner has - it takes time and effort to do each horse. I also don't give a customer discount if they stable more than one horse with me - the cost is per horse - per stable.

I do have one owner who pays me to bring his horse in every day - I turn all horses out in the AM as part of their DIY package, but he is obviously scared of his horse - very sad as she is only 14'1 old cob lady, so he will do the mucking out and then stand and watch me bring her in - pick out her feet, change her rug and put her in her stable - he then puts her feed in over the door. Seems odd to me - he is there, he loves her but he prefers to pay me £2.00 .
