Hi My mare has got lumps under her belly which I have found are called ademas caused by fluid build up are these anything to worry about as I read can be a heart problem? Internet makes you go insane with worry! She has been in a lot for around 6 weeks no exercise due to sore palate! Its all going wrong! Mouth is better now she has lumps!!!

My boy got these ventral odemas a couple of months ago (he is on box rest due to tendon injury) - could be caused by alot of things - mine were because he had had a skin infection which changed the protein in the blood slightly which let the water escape. Could be change in feed? I got my boy blood tested which might be a good idea to rule out anything sinister. Could be due to heart but very unlikely that this is the only sign of heart failure.

That's why you should never look things up on the internet and try to self-diagnose. If they don't go down quickly, best get a vet to check, may be something or nothing.

As somebody said, dont look things up on the internet. I have turned myself inside several times over my horse in the past.

oedema is fluid build up and it could be because of your horse being stabled. My horse gets this in his hind legs and sheath when stabled.

If you cant turnout/walk in hand and if it doesnt go within a few days, call the vet. It can take a few days for it to dispearse.

they have gone now but worried as spoke to her breeder and my mares mum died of a massive odema under her belly! Now im pooing it!

Look at the posts further down titled pitting oedema and lymphangitis. Heart failure is not top of the list though it may sometimes cause those signs. How old is the hrse?
