Hey all. I have a 8 year old OTTB. He used to race for a 3 seasons, and now I got him and started to train him for dressage. He was lazy a lot, and a bit stiff, but would warm up out of it after 10 minutes. Then he developed back and croup pain, and started to buck, refuse movement, rear and stuff. Finally, he got on and off lame on the right hind leg. We brought him out of work, and he does have some starting arthritic changes in his hocks. Vet suspected hocks and only hocks were x-rayed. He said he gets lame on the right hind after heavy dressage workout. So I decided to not use injections in the joint, but chose Adequan as a less aggressive option. I plan to give him 7 vials, one every for days. And I put him on Cortaflex HA, every day. Would it work out if he had Cortaflex HA daily forever and Adequan loading dose every year? I hope it will. Then later, in 2-3 years, I may inject his joints. Please tell me your experiences or advice. Also for his back pain, will Adequan solve his sore back or should I inject his back? Any suggestions for relieving his back pain are helpful. Thanks a lot guys! <3

Hiya, my horse had been lame, on right hind for just over a year, & in May I got a 4th vet out, as the others didnt know why.
He has scarillac pain so he had the loading dose of cartrophen injections & now has one every 6 weeks, & my boy now moves lovely & showing no pain over his back. Hope that helps .

Hello. Your reply really did help, as I'm having trouble to diagnose what is exactly wrong with him. I'm glad your boy is fine now and it is really good to hear a successful story about him. :) I've heard Cartrophen is similar to Adequan, and right now I will browse around about it. Anyway, if Adequan fails to work, I can always give Cartrophen a try. Thank you so much! It means a lot to me to hear you managed to solve your problem after a year, cause I've been having problems for a few months now and going crazy a bit. :( Thanks!

Glad it has helped you. Its so horrible having a lame horse & no one knows why.
I wish you lots of luck with your horse & hope it all comes right for you.

Hi my horse has arthritis in her hocks and before it was diagnosed she continually had a sore back too. The physio was out every 3 months and she was always sore behind the saddle. We gave her cortisone injections into the hocks (she is now 19yrs), cartrophen every month and she is on cosequin. Now we have sorted out her hocks she no longer has a sore back.

I gave her cortaflex (the ordinary one) for years she still developed clicking hocks it wasn't until we changed to cosequin that the clicking stopped.

I hope that helps. Good luck it is awful trying to decide what to do for the best.

Okay, thank you so much. But I've heard regular Cortaflex is for maintenance, and HA one is when there is a problem. My horse has clicking hocks, not sure if it is coming from the hocks, but I hear it when he picks up his legs to shoo a bug away, for example. I hope Cortaflex HA will help. I also hope for Adequan to work, will let you know when I start giving it to him. My vet is on holiday, so hopefully soon. I'm wondering, as my horse is a dressage horse, and not sure about your, but did your horse improve? My horse won't go forward in collection on flat, so I'm wondering if you have experiences with this? :3 Thanks again! Means a lot. :3

Yeah it is. I went on a trail with him, and he was happy and really went forward, trotted and cantered. And no pinned ears. And on flat, he's awful, won't go forward, no impulsion, bucking when switching to canter and stuff. :( Thank you again, and I'll let you know of the progress. <3
