Eddy had a course of adequan injections a few years ago. He had a course of three injectoins over three weeks. By the third injection he was sound. I started using cortaflex a week after the last injection and havent had a proplem since.
My horse had a couple of Adequan joint injections over 2-3 weeks - took a few days to notice the difference and I walked him gently in hand/ rode for 5-10 mins to get the Adequan into the joint at first.
We gradually have built the work back up over the last 5 months- he's in full work and going better than ever- although the Adequan has no pain killer as such, it really has helped my horse- I didn't feed joint supplement for a while though just so I could see whether the Adequan was or was not working.
Not sure but I went to a conference held by WALTHAM and they had a speaker called Wayne MacIlwaith or something. He did a talk on neutracuticles and adequan. Perhaps you could ring them and get the papers?
Prof Wayne McIlwraith is one of the top equine orthopaedic vets in the USA - and world recognised as one of the top equine osteoarthritis experts. I think he does a lot of lectures on behalf of Adequan - I think they sponsor some of his work.
Digger - your vet should have explained how long before you should see an effect. However, it does vary between horses and for some it only makes a small difference or the change only lasts a short time - it depends on the horse, the joint and the degree of damage.
my horse has been recommended Adequan (as well as corticsteriods) for arthritis of coffin joints. I'm going to ring vets for info (including cost!) tomorrow, so will let you know if I find out more.
ps nice to hear stories of horses that have had Adequan and are going well
