My saddle fitter was out yesterday and advised me that sadly my lovely, very comfortable custom made saddle is too narrow for my new horse.
He advised me I'll need to get an adjustable saddle to accommodate him as he is still filling out and will more than likely grow from his current medium wide to extra wide in a couple of years.
I've been going quite insane since yesterday researching all the different options.
He recommended Fieldhouse and Thorogood but I'm not too fond of either (sorry, call me fussy). I'm fortunate to have a budget of £1500 for a new saddle and the Kieffer Munchen deep seat has caught my eye.
At present I'll be doing schooling and hacking and hoping to tackle some jumping, hunter trials in the future.
Does anyone have or know anything about the Kieffers and specifically the Munchen? I like the fact it has a cut back Pommel which really suits my horse's high wither.
Not sure if there might be any other brands out there that would also suit? I'm happy to pay a premium to get the best saddle for my budget as I hope to have it a long time.
It's been 14 years since I bought my last saddle so I have no clue as to what the good brands are.
Any comments appreciated.

Kieffers are not as popular as they once were - they can work for high withered types but I do find they are very narrow in the head of the tree ie under the pommel.

Adjustable saddles - well, any traditional beech laminate tree can be adjusted a few times by a fitter who works that way, I do, and I find that it is plenty of adjustability for most horses. If they change seasonally then it is perfectly okay to fit for the wider size and pad with a good firm pad like the Mattes Correction system.

A great blog post on adjustable saddles:

The important thing is to get a saddle that fits first and foremost - adjustability is a bonus :)

Why don't you get a second hand adjustable saddle for a few hundred pounds ( can look tatty) then when you horse has finished growing in a few years splash out on something lovely that will fit forever? X

Kent and masters do lovely adjustable saddles... getting one for my 5 yr old who is changing like no tomorrow! Goggle them, got good website and range of saddle :-)
