Admitting defeat!!

Well, we have made the decision to sell our pony. Very pretty welsh B gelding, was told by previous owner done a bit of everything, tried him appeared ok, nice and quiet, bit of a plod at times. However over the past year he has had my daughter off more times than I care to mention, can be nappy, if he doesn't want to do it, he won't. Spent a fortune on new saddles, re-schooling and having every part of his body checked (again). My daughter rode a friends pony this morning and had a smile on her face, rode her pony and ended up in tears again. Maybe they just don't get along. Hopefully his next owner will be more successful although I have found out since buying him his previous ownes weren't as honest as I intend to be
 
It is such a shame when a relationship with a pony doesnt go as well as it should.
It sounds like you are making the right decision to keep your daughter's love of riding going. Often making the decision to try again with another pony is the hardest part.

I recently had a simiar problem, my daugher was ready to move off her leadrein pony she wouldnt let me sell so shes out on loan, so we decided (luckily loan was the way forward, we went to see a stunning 12hh sec c called princess she seemed perfect got her home started off well but as time went on we had more and more problems and my daughter was getting more and more nervous to the stage where she didnt want to ride and was doing less than the pony we put on loan, although she loved her we made the decsion to send her back. We now have the pony of her dreams, my 6 year now hacks out off the lead, gallops up the hill round the track at the farm woth the teenagers and did her first off the lead showjumping last weekend and won!!!! So although it was hard it was definatly the right choice, but im so glad we loaned!!! Might be worth that, or some owner have loan with view to buy say with a 3 month contract.:)
 
That is one possibility. They have a love/hate relationship when he's good she loves him, then when he's not she doesn't!! As you've pointed out she's getting to a point where she will only school on the lunge and on a hack tenses up if she has to go faster than a walk. The more I write and think about it I know it's the right thing to do
 
Yer its the best decsion ive ever made the confidence my daughter had got in 3 months is amazing shes gone from quivering when i stepped away from her to a very brave a good little rider, the pony ive got is a very steady but he goes for her with a good bit of leg and its made her a real determined little rider i do not regret it at all. It took time to fine the right pony but im glad i held out now. The pony ive got is worth his weight in gold!:)
