Adult food for a puppy?

From what I understand, "puppy food" is a marketing ploy to charge more, but that certain things are important, such as protein (minimum 24% is it?).

Pup is currently on Burgess Supadog Puppy but his trumps are horrendous so I'm looking around for something else (am leaning towards Autarky Salmon). Is there anything else I should be looking out for in an adult food to ensure its nutritious enough for my growing boy? (16 week old Cavalier).

When I got my JRT pup 6 years ago her "breeder" had been feeding the pups adault greyhound food:confused: She always had a super sensitive tummy for the first couple of years and had to have ID food for 6 months after developing a dangerous bout of haemorrhagic gastritis. My vet said it could well be due to her early feeding (I got her at 12 weeks and fed her puppy food not adult food). Because of this I would be very wary though my vet may not have been correct.
 
Puppy food is quite rich as growing pups needs lots of nutrients to grow. Adult food is generally a maintenance diet and not so rich. Most pups go onto adult food around a year old as twiglet says.

You could feed your pup charcoal Bonio biscuits which can help with the trumping.
 
Feeding stuff that produces wind and copious piles of poop,like us,indicates the wrong food for that dog.We choose to eat this crap,dogs cannot,feed good raw food,both wind and over production will cease.
 
most pups ime go onto adult food at 6 months - however in a lot of cases so called puppy food is just a marketing ploy;)

Natural Instinct complete raw tubs are fantastic. The only difference in between the puppy and adult versions are the size of the grind!

If you dont want to go raw, look at Orijen, Fish4dogs, Applaws or Acana
 
Never bought puppy food for my Cairn, she came with Hills puppy ( but had colitis with this :( ) changed her on to Wainwrights trays and she has been fine, she gets raw chicken wings too :) ( she's 10 months now)
 
I may be wrong on this but I think there are "regulations" when it comes to labelling puppy and adult food... And that it is actually the senior food that is more of a marketing thing.

Autarky do a puppy food dont they? Try that.

I did look into raw but I just don't have the freezer space. But it does sound as though I need to go for proper puppy food after all so will look more into those. The Autarky puppy food does look as though its pretty good :)
