Adventures with a pink NF pony

[New Forests Rock]

Well, as promised, pictures of Chief (Limekiln Indian Brave) aka The Pink Pony. He is by a strawberry roan stallion Portmore Thundercloud whose offspring are (usually ) renown for good temperaments, bone, substance and a calm attitude to life. So far, Chief has shown such a willing, sensible attitude to everything we have asked of him I am hoping this will prove true.

It was certainly so yesterday when he took part in our yard annual Christmas Charity Ride/Drive/walk for Cancer Research. Although he's wearing a MR headcollar it was so not necessary - just a rope halter would have been fine This was only his 4th walk out in hand, and he simply ignored all the other (bouncy) ponies, Christmas music, tinsel, and even a mega. Happy days, if he carries on like this he will make me a brilliant driving pony.

Just for NF enthusiasts the photo of us all lined up before the off is 10 Foresters, at least half of whom are by the late, great Longcopse Elton

How lovely. I think we had that stallion turned out near where I live last spring, he is certainly calm.

Oh my gosh he's gorgeous I would love a Thundercloud baby one day the pinker the better.

I learned to ride on a palomino NF who was the gentlest boy.

What a star. He's a typical Thundercloud!! They do have lovely temperaments-he reminds me of a pony I had by the same sire.

I really should check out how he was bred he only passed away recently in his mid thirties! I love how the NF stallions all have pictures online.

It was lovely, wasn't it? SM is the daughter of our instructor/YM/friend of many years. Not only does she take stunning pictures but is a practising commoner, a published author and gives excellent talks about Forest life and history to local schools, care homes and is training to be a NF pony judge. She will also be showing Chief for me as 3 joint replacements mean my days of running up are long past

Further update - we have raised over £700 for Cancer Research so delighted with the effort. Hardest part was scrubbing off enough mud to make him vaguely presentable - and pink

She really knows her stuff - and I used to escort her on forest hacks and drive her to pony club/shows aged 8 as I was then the only one with a trailer Makes me feel so old!!

I learnt to ride at Mopley, with Brian Tillman, Applemore with Stephanie Berridge and Ipers Bridge (6s&6d an hour!)

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments - I will post updates (with pictures) as we go on. Today's good news - total raised was £861 so worth doing, and Chief wore his driving bridle for the first time - took absolutely no notice of the blinkers, just got on with the job.xx
