Has anyone had a pony have an adverse reaction to the flu/tet? We bought little mare 5 weeks ago. She was given her first injection by their local vet 4 days before we collected her.

She travelled home and literally laid down twitching when we got her into her stable. We put it down to exhaustion. She was quiet the following day and then began to improve.

She's been in gentle work as we have gently built her up without overfeeding her, shes had a 'full service' and is looking and working well.

On Tuesday our vet came to give her the 2nd jab. She had it in her chest. On Wed morning she couldn't walk properly. It was like a cross between a wobbler/ tying up / shivers.

The vet came out and said it was a reaction to vaccination. We are now 5 days post injection. She is still not right. Vet has been out 3 times and is speaking to vaccine company tomorrow but has anyone else experienced this please.

Mine always reacts, hers is never quite as bad as you have experienced though!

She is generally off colour and out of salts, I Bute the day before and then for a few days after and she usually has a week or so off just out in the field.

Have had 2 horses react. The first had very stiff and sore neck and struggled to get head to the floor. This continued for a few days but passed eventually. He has injections to the chest since and has been ok. The second presented with a high temp and was trembling noticibly when having feet picked out and generally seemed quite poorly. Vet gave anti inflammatory and steroid and I monitored temp through the night (if it had gone any higher he would have had to have been admitted) . Temp was nearly normal by next morning. He was quiet for a day or so but recovered well

Have owned horses for 15 yrs and have never seen any reactions until these recent cases with mine, does make you wonder what goes into these new drugs. Sounds like your vets are taking the right precautions though. Do hope pony is better soon

I had a pony that chad a severe reaction to a vaccination. His temperature shot up and he started shivering uncontrollably. A few of us literally held him up as his knees started to buckle.

He was back to normal within a few days but we never gave him that brand of vaccine again.

Yes mine had reaction couldn't move his neck to the point were they wanted to X-ray him , took three months to get him right , did him in his chest this time and was fine xx hope yours is ok let me know how u get on xxx
