I have just rung up about a horse sounds absolutely perfect for one of my clienst but they have only had him 8 months???

The way they advertised him was as if he had been with them for years. The reason for sale was given as the mother and daughter now wanted to share a horse and the daughter wanted to go out hunting, this horse has been cubbing a few times but they now wanted something with more experience on the field.

It all sounds odd to me, surely before they bought the horse 8 months previous they would have discussed their requirements???

Any thoughts x

What suits one does not suit another, just go and see if it suits you.
I agree it sounds a bit odd, but at least you are going with your objective mind in place, have you told them you need a five stage vetting?

I know a girl who's selling her schoolmaster after having it for 3 months, been there done that but she doesn't click with it (probably coz its actually nice, unlike her previous horses) and so is now selling. So it does happen for legit reasons.

i bought my horse after the girl before had only had him 8 months, she said that she didn't have time for him and he was wasted with her I was obviously cautious but turns out she was totally honest! Go and have a look and go with your gut instinct!

Yes go have a look go with your gut feeling, I bought a horse some time ago his owner had put him out on loan twice and he had been returned back to her, but I took a chance and in all the 12 yrs I had that horse he never put a foot wrong, in fact he was one of the best horses I ever had !:):)

I bought my pony off some people who had only had him 8 months but they were open about him being a project for the daughter to learn how to bring on just backed pony and they were selling him as they wanted buy a bigger pony as he was a bit small.

Sometimes peoples circumstances change, perhaps the daughter was not intending to do hunting but went cubbing to see what it was like and then decided she really liked it and wanted to that instead of whatever she originally bought the horse for.

Ours was described as 'our daughter has taken him as far as she feels able' - everyone said avoid, sounds like hard work. Turns out a more suitable pony had come up within the pony club (older, more experience, better schooled, slightly larger) and thus ours was surplus to requirements. Turns out he really suited my daughter who prefers to put in the hard work to get a pony doing what she wants, she always found the steady eddie pushbutton ponies at the riding school just a tad boring, she used to really like the one that bucked and misbehaved!

I bought a horse from a girl who had only had him 2 wks. She had bought him to bring on and sell but he hated her and constantly tried to kick her - she couldn't tack up without a whip in her hand. Have had him 6 yrs and love him to pieces.

We once sold a pony we had only had for 9 months. We werE niaive when we bought him and believed the seller when she said he would do pony BS (we had no experience of BS but daughter wanted to do it).

Anyhow, he was never going to be an SJer and so we sold him and bought a proven BS pony. however, without him my daughter would not have been able to ride the BS pony, he was a great 'stepping stone' from her 13.2 to the BS pony.

The people who bought him sold him about 6 weeks after they bought him, I was most upset, but the people who have him now have had him for the last 4 years and love him to bits.

So really, it just shows that sometimes the 'match' needs to be right.

I would go and see this horse and just keep your gut instinct to the fore and get it vetted. good luck.

Be careful- had a situation like this when looking for a pony for daughter - son had outgrown the pony but they only bought it three month before we went to try it!! took an experienced friend with me who thought she was actually a dealer but trying not to look like one. Did not buy the pony as was too young, but you never know you could get lucky
