... instantly I was asked if I would loan her. Now in my mind, I would only loan to someone I knew quite well, so this has thrown me. I did see part of a thread on here recently listing the things that you would ask to see from a potential loaner, can someone remind me what they are please, the only one I can remember is utility bill with name and address on!

I cant believe people do that, does it happen a lot? I cant imagine having the cheek to ring up a horse for sale ad and ask to loan it. Loan with a view to buy possibly, but I doubt it.

Good luck with finding your horse a home.

I would never dream of that unless I had viewed and was seriously thinking of genuinely buying etc etc and after a vetting first etc. But you will meet some unscrupulous people so I would say what a b......dy cheek! NO! I loaned a pony for sale only because I knew the yard was nearby I could go to see him and I did about 3 times in a month to check but I knew he was in a good proper yard and a relative had a horse on a working livery. They bought him.

Otherwise NO. I am assuming they hadnt even seen the horse and if someone rang me asking that I would be wary that they had the money to look after the horse ie vets bills etc etc to fork out if they couldnt afford to buy etc

That is quite cheeky, but I suppose the phrase 'if you don't ask , you don't get' applies!!!

We loaned and knew he had to go back this month, as luck would have it we have now bought him!!!

However after loaning my old boy out and it ending horribly, I would never, ever do it again unless it was to some one I knew... Sorry :(

I asked, was told no, was telephoned by the owner a few days later asking us to please take - ended up buying! And we still have her. Thing is, when we went to see her she ticked only a very few of our boxes and if I was pressed to buy, I would have walked away! She will NEVER be sold.
