I'm feeling really down and needed to get my worries off my chest.

Not sure if any of you will remember my post two weeks ago (Rocky had a hoon around the field and came in lame, vet came out and thought it was a twisted coffin joint and he had 2 weeks box rest and danelon)....

.... after two weeks box rest he is still lame

we have not got a clue what the problem is now. there is no heat, no swelling. When the vet initially came out she nerve blocked at the fetlock so we know the problem is somewhere below there... i just don't know what else it could be... and neither does the vet really.

He is to go for more nerve blocks on Tuesday at the horse hospital nearby.. starting with his heel. Then she is going to xray him and scan him.

im finding it really difficult to know how optimistic to feel.

I have only had him a year and 5 months, and I gave him his first year to settle in and didn't take him anywhere. he had come from a very big yard you see and struggled to settle down into our yard as it was so small and quiet. we have bonded so much and i saved up and have had weekly lessons to help us. we had joined a long distance riders club and done two of their rides which he loved and I also did West Wycombe sponsored ride which he loved. We were looking forward to doing our first show and dressage test at the end of June.

I just feel gutted and I really don't know what to expect? What makes it more difficult is anything to do with his feet is excluded from my insurance... I am going to have to look at getting a second job if the costs are really high, but I don't care about that!

Any advice or thoughts or similar experiences would really help ....

Thanks if you got to the end

Oh no I'm so sorry to read about your boy!
My gelding is on box rest at the moment having been hooning around in the field and coming in lame (1mth ago!!). His lameness is quite intermittent and ranges from very mild shortening of the stride at trot to walking like he's crippled

He is not down in himself (actually seems quite chirpy and continues to fool around with the other horses etc) but just wont come sound

We have ruled out abcesses in the foot, shoulder or back stiffness/lameness and are taking him over to the vets on Wednesday for full diagnostics including nerve blocks and x rays etc but it is worrying because the vets, the back lady and farrier are all somewhat confounded as there is no obvious damage, heat, swelling etc

The farrier did mention it might be a bone chip on his knee which I googled and came up with some pretty scary results but with both our horses it seems like it could be virtually anyting!!... All the best getting a speedy diagnosis and recovery

Yes seems very similar to me - we have ruled out abcesses, my farrier has had a good look and I have had the chiro out too!!! you will have to let me know how you get on with your tests. Fingers crossed for both our boys

Just a very quick word of advice - if you have insurance then go for everything until you get an answer. If it is coffin joint related there may be soft tissue damage which will only show on MRI. The longer the diagnosis takes the less chance of a recovery if it is soft tissue involvement. A specialist in lameness is often needed.

It may of course be nothing more than a pull or twist so (((vibes))) for good news and a speedy recovery.

I do have insurance yeah but anything and everything to do with the feet in any way is excluded cos when I bought him he had flat front feet. To be honest it wont stop me letting them investigate - I will just have to find a way to pay for it if insurance wont cover it.

I just hope it is something that he can recover from!
