Hi all, I have a potential buyer coming to look at one of my horses this afternoon. I have been completely honest with the woman, my horse will need to be restarted as has been off a year, but she is very well handled and good mannered. She is being sold 'from the field' as it were.

Consider she can't be seen being ridden (however on the lunge she is an angel) and is being sold as such, would you want to arrive to see the horse all clean and prepared and ready to be lunged, or would you prefer to see that she is good to groom, pick out feet, catch, lead etc first?

Was thinking also that the time taked preparing her would be a good time to chat to the buyer so we can see if they are a good match.

Thoughts? Brunello for anyone with legible ones :D

If it was me I would prefer to know nothing had been done before i arrived. Would like to see it being caught , led , tied up and groomed as would let me see temperament

I usually ask what they would prefer, pony looking nice and ready to go or do you want to catch and groom with me. They usually choose the 2nd. I always groom and then rug up and turn out before they come though to minimise embarassment at state of pony.

Yeah I agree with this I would have it washed, groomed, trimmed, generally beautyfied before hand then rug up with full neck and put back out in the nearest most convient, least muddest field, then at least you can quickly catch and bring in an hose legs clean up ect

I would have them reasonably tidy. They don't have to be covered in mud to show that they are good to groom and handle, and I wouldn't want to spent half an hour grooming when I went to see a horse... You can still give them another flick over and pick out feet etc even if you've groomed already...

Thanks for advice everyone, I know I should have asked when she called but didn't think. I'll go and give her a clean at least, no harm in grooming her twice, right? I hope the beggar behaves herself, this sounds like a great home for her, bl00dy nervous now can you believe!
