As poor Hobbit Pony is out of action I have been exercising a friends eventer. Whilst at the yard I bumped into a chap I met out hunting with VAGSB who was interested in me helping to keep his 2 hunters fit through the season. Excellent......except I am moving to Gloucestershire in September. :( Anyway this got me thinking......

I'll be a MSc student so timetable is abit wierd but I'll have plenty of weekday mornings available where I could ride/muck out. I thought it might suit someone who works and has more 1 horse and would just like the help as and when. I would desperately love to hunt but I suspect this would be too much to expect.

So questions; do you think anyone would be interested? Will it be too late by September, will everyone have fit horses already? How do you think I should go about it. Ring the secretaries see if they'll stick an ad on a round robin email? I only ever got rides back home through word or mouth which is abit difficult when you've lived away for nearly 10 years, no-one knows me anymore. :(

Any contacts, words of wisdom, ideas gratefully recieved!

My horse would love it if someone got him fit and took him hunting! We are in the Cotswold/Cotswold Vale country and not far from the Ledbury/North Cots/Heythrop. The Farmers Bloodhounds are also near us at times. I have a trailer you can use, but you would need something to tow it yourself. If not, the Cotswold are within hacking distance on occational thursdays. Horse is strong but an old pro, safe jumper who will jump anything. Lives out, so no mucking out, sorry, but could possibly come in at night if you wanted to take over. Super hacking where he is. Interested?

where will you be in september? We're in the heart of the Ledbury country & hunt with the VWH & N Cots as well. We should have at least 5 hunters up - with only me mucking out......

Marmalade that sounds very interesting. I will be based in Stroud. I have a car but its a VW golf - so no good for towing unfortunately or going to hunt meets (I nearly got it stuck in a very muddy field ). Whereabouts are you?? Feel free to PM me.

Spacefaer - I will be in Stroud. I have my own transport and would be willing to drive 30 mins or so. I guess would depend where you are??

I havent got my timetable but basically I understand I would have 4 days per fortnight where I would have full days of lectures and the rest of the time off to do my own study. I would prefer to do early mornings on my "off days" so I can still get back and do some work.

Horse is at Gotherington, just north of Cheltenham, not far off the A46. Probably about 30mins from Stroud depending on which way you go.
Could possibly get you a lift to some Vale meets, would have to have a chat with someone.
There are some pics of my horse in PG.

if youd come last season we would have asked you to keep our 2 huntes fit, but now weve one on livery and the other retired... but i know so many people who would want someone to keep there horses fit... especially mums' with children away at school.
i would contact secretaries and ask if they could put an ad on an email (ours is always sending emails round anyway)
good luck!

Oooh I am in Stroud :) well, horse is, I am 10 mins out of Stroud. If you like I can give you the Cotswold sec's email, she may know of someone? I am sure there are loads who would bite your hand off, if they only knew you were there!!

Hi, I live in Cirencester which I assume is where you are doing your Masters (I was a student there last year). I hunt with the VWH when I can manage to get out and although I only have one horse I would appreciate some help getting/keeping her hunting fit over the winter and any mucking out would be an added bonus. You probably wouldn't be able to hunt her without transport but we have a ptp course and aren't far from Cirencester park. PM me if you are interested.

Aniseed, I'm actually going to be at University of West of England (UWE) in Bristol. I'm doing Transport Planning.

I'm amazed I've had such a positive response. I am coming home on the weekend and going to try and see Marmalade76 and Spacefarer, so see how we get on.
