So following on from my other thread on children's pony.

If I wanted to try and add a little umph with feed, what would people suggest?

Pony is welsh sec a - very good doer, lives if grazing plus hay when needed and a salt lick !
Pony gets fat just looking at feed-

So what might add umph without calories??

I was going to answer on your other thread but forgot to go back to it. Your pony sounds like a little gem, a true 1st pony that has almost finished doing his job for your daughter and is likely to stay as he is, safe and steady, the chances of feed making him more energetic, unless he is lacking in vits and mins, is slim, he is more likely to just get fatter.
Most feeds for energy will be high in calories, or full of the undesirable starches that will be a risk to a small pony contracting laminitis, especially in the spring, if he was mine I would look at finding a super home for him and getting the next step up, he will be happy staying within his comfort zone, be appreciated for who he is and your daughter will enjoy her next pony once you find the right one.

Multi vitamins certainly perked up my welshie  although shes already a hyper type. If the pony is overweight try getting it to loose the excess weight and it will have more energy, don't feed anything sugary/high energy it's just asking for laminitis. If the ponys fit, in perfect shape and is already on a well balanced diet it may just be how the pony naturally is!
