Millie is 9 months now, and has always been an enthusiastic eater. However, over the past week and a half she's started turning her nose up at her food, both morning and night. She tends to have a tiny bit, then be more interested in Amber's food bowl, then when Amber is finished she walks away and leaves her food.

We've been leaving the bowl down throughout the morning and she often goes back and picks at it, but hasn't been finishing it off. Nightimes she eats more (guess because she's really hungry), but this morning she's eating nothing.

Food wasn't changed when this started, but about 2 days ago her bag of food was nearly finished, so thinking she was just bored of the food we've gradually changed her onto a different brand. Still not eating!

Didn't want to at first as didn't want to make her a fussy eater, but we've tried putting 'nice' things in her bowl too, little bits of chicken or an egg (which she loves) and she eats that bit but nothing else.

She's very well in herself, poos and everything are normal and she's bright and cheery.

Any ideas? Could this be linked with about to start her seasons?

I was about to ask if she's maybe coming in to season. And then I read that last line -it's possible. Also, she's an adolescent - even neutered dogs sometimes go thru funny spells around that age. I woudln't worry too much unless she's starting to drop weight - ie too much weight.

mine is male, so no seasons (thank god!

)but he sometimes has moments of "seriosuly mum?! u expect me to eat that?!!!"

so I jsut take it away and have the approach of fine, if you dont want to eat it ul be hungry at dinner time and hopefully eat it, if you still dont eat it, ul be starving next breakfast, then ul definetly eat it!
Now he hardly ever doesnt eat
I also put a bit of warm water on his food (he is on a complete dried food.... JWB) and that often helps as I think it makes it smell better to them

If she is on dry food try popping an egg in, some veg oil or some natural yoghurt.

When my dogs get picky (seasons, weather etc) I don't leave the food down for them.
If they don't eat up within about ten minutes, I take it away, trains them to be picky otherwise and I am paranoid about slugs and lungworm (mine are fed outside).

My9 month old retriever is not remotely interested in food, we have tried different brands but he isn't really bothered. he was fine as a smmall puppy but as he has gotten older he has lost interest. He was fussy anyway though, won't eat the lamb of fish james wellbeloved stuff, and thats absolute no - won't even humour you and eat it, but the turkey one was fine!

He looks fine, eats when he feels like it and all motions are fine. He will eat rice if we put it in but then leave the rest, he just keeps getting it back and he eats eventually. Can't say i am worrying really - if he starts looking poor thats different but at the moment he seems fine!

Friends stayed with their labs this weekend and feedtime lasted about 30 seconds as they inhaled it!! Oursstill wasn't bothered!!
