Hi.
Next week we are picking up an Andalucian mare that has been 'rescued' from Spain. She was going to go for meat and is in reasonably poor condition. She is thought to be around 8 and has probably not had much in way of handling.
Ultimately i'd like to use her as a riding horse, but will spend the winter getting some condition on her, i guess a bit of long-reining and lunging, but generally handling.
So, apart from a good worming, checking for fleas and a clean up, what else would you recommend for her coming home? I have 2 geldings who are very easy to deal with.
Also, i wouldn't break her myself, i have a very good riding instructor who can help, but does anyone have any tips for dealing with an older 'green' horse and exercises i can do with her/bonding suggestions??
thanks!
