Hi :)

We’ve had our beautiful girl since May and things have been going well, she’s my daughter (18 next month) second horse, although first is a fat hairy cob and she is a 17 year old 16.3 ISH.

We have an amazing trainer who has completely changed things, Flavia is a very point and go horse and DD had absolutely no breaks over jumps. After working for a few months she has control when jumping.

The problem we are having is she DD rides on her own with no trainer presence. Flavia seems to take the absolute piss and she has no breaks in canter. She just locks on and goes. There has been a few times DD has nearly came off but luckily she’s equally strong and stubborn.

After trying to practice her dressage test last night and Flavia not stopping in canter DD has declared she never riding again 🤦🏻‍♀️ but has gone out and bought a new martingale today. We’ve been using one for the last few months and it’s helped slightly, more so when jumping.

It’s completely ruining her confidence, when she’s with the trainer she’s jumping 1m+, doing amazing contact etc but the min she’s on her own I feel she gets anxious and Flavia can spot it.

She absolutely hates her bit I think, she’s just in standard snaffle but she came with a stronger bit but she’s worse with that, she’s constantly fighting it and messing around with it.

Any help appreciated. Thank you x

She's a big beastie, what did she do in her previous life and who rode her? Gadgets are rarely the solution, schooling is, however if she's on the cusp of loosing her confidence all together maybe speak to trainer and see what you can do.

Go back to slower paces to make sure she listens in halt, walk, trot transitions? Hack out if safe?

Forgot pics of our girl! 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Shes out 8am - 5/6pm atm

She’s amazing in lessons, this is the thing. She’s a very sensitive mare so when DD goes in anxious she picks it up.

She was an eventer hntil the age of 11 then moved to dressage and won lots doing that. We bought her at 16 and she’s recently turned 17.

She’s safe and sensible but she just gets so excited in cantering. She has ground matters that are excellent it’s just when she has no trainer watching she seems to take this piss lol
