Hi,
i am wanting to go to one of the sales later this year - at the other end of the country!

Now in the sales book it states:
Anyone transporting horses from this sale, other than an individual horse, on a journey in excess of 65km (approx 40 miles) 1. Must hold a relevant transporters authorisation. 2. Must complete and keep for 6 months an Animal Transport Certificate. 3. Must hold a relevant Certificate of Competence. Vehicles must be escape-proof, trailers must have rear top doors or a bar to prevent ponies
escaping. Horses of different sizes or ages must be in separate partitions. Unbroken horses may
not be transported on journeys in excess of 8 hours.

now that is all well and good but...
from what i have just seen online, i am a private buyer, so i shouldnt need a certificate etc?

IF i do need to do a test - where can i do this and how much does it cost?

thanks!

Perhaps they think that anyone buying and transporting more than one individual horse is likely to be a dealer and doing it as part of a business, or running a transport business? Seems a bit draconian, what if you buy two at the sale, or a mare and foal?

As you are looking to purchase or sell on, it is the authorisation that you may have to comply with, this is to track movements arround the country.
All animal movements over 65K since FMD relating to sale and purchase have to be authorised and in the case of some animals movements have to be licenced even for shorter distances.
Your local DEFRA office should be able to advise.

Are you sure? I think you may be talking about livestock, not horses.
