If you run your own business and muck out, feed etc for your customers, do you get paid daily/weekly/monthly. Do you always give an invoice or is it a casual arrangement? A friend of mine has just been treated very badly by a customer she has had for over a year. At the customers request, my friend visited the stables. 3 times a day, mucked out, fed and watered and took a horse for an in-hand walk for 10 minutes each visit. She gave the customer her invoice and the customer has decided she will not pay it all, and has deducted a third of the bill...it beggars belief. My friend has given the customer 7 days to pay the balance, or she will start legal proceedings. You can't buy something from a shop, and then say you will only pay 2/3rds if the price!!!!!

Terrible situation.
Did the client know the prices before the work?
Were they not happy with the work?
If your friend is legal and above board then best option is to start proceedings.

How awful. I would persist and try the claim to money back from the person. You can't just do that without very good reason.
Not sure going the legal route will actually gain much. If the client chooses not to pay then it will be all a waste of time. Sometimes the best option is to do nothing and walk away. Nothing to stop your friend telling people how this ex-client diddled her is there? There's more than one way to skin a cat, as they say.... This is of course assuming she can afford to drop this client, perhaps that isn't possible straight away.

Would very much depend on why she deducted. As someone said was she aware of the costs before hand?

If 'just because' then disgusting and go the legal route.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, the client did know the charges beforehand, it's just that after her being away for a few weeks, they obviously built up rather than the usual paying her weekly. The client is a bully, and has probably found someone cheaper to continue being at her beck and call. My friend will most definitely go the legal route, as she doesn't want her client to get away with it. The client already has a terrible reputation locally for many and various reasons, she displays mental tendencies at times which makes things even more difficult.
My friend took her at face value and wouldn't pre-judge, even though she was warned. Now she is extremely hurt by her client as she worked extremely hard for her. There are many other clients who are more than willing to testify in court as to how conscientious, capable and caring my friend is. It just seems all so very sad...:(

What area is your friend in ? and note to self - if someone cant pay this week, they sure as hell cant pay the follwoing one.

Its things like this that leave you really sour.
